Medgar Evers is an amazing institution where the arts though not necessarily incorporated in their academic platform, flourishes on an extremely organic level and reaches the attention of some really big wigs in the international theater scene. Such is the case of Impact Broadway Collegiate Advisor, Thomas Bradshaw.

Thomas Bradshaw is an Assistant Professor of Mass Communications and 2009 Guggenheim-award-winning playwright and has received a rave New York Times theater review for his off-Broadway stage play, The Bereaved. The Times praised this latest entree in the award-winning playwright’s canon, and said Bradshaw “has proved in play after play that he has a confident vision of the theater that is his own.” for more info please go to http://www.cuny.edu/news/newsreleases_p=4359.html or www.impactbroadway.com for the full story.

On the other side of town, in East New York you can always check out the modern spin on an age old tale. Unto Us is an updated version of the nativity story based on a Hip-Hop aesthetic. The show written by a teen for teens, celebrates its 10th year anniversary and consists of a 140 member casts. A must see… I mean who ever knew you could see Joseph do the “jerk” in the middle of Time Square? For more info: www.spcbc.com or http://vimeo.com/2220505
